Korea National Railway Seeks Developer for Mixed-Use Project at Digital Media City Station on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line

[Financial News] The bidding process has begun for a developer to carry out a large-scale mixed-use project around Digital Media City Station on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line.
 According to Korea National Railway on the 25th, the agency will publicly recruit a project operator for 60 days starting today to advance the mixed-use development project at Digital Media City Station on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line. The project site is a 5,598.7-square-meter railway parcel near Digital Media City Station in Mapo District, Seoul. The agency plans to create a new hub in the northwest area by maximizing the station-area location and surrounding development conditions.
 Digital Media City Station is a transfer station where Seoul Subway Line 6, the Airport Railroad, and the Gyeongui–Jungang Line meet, making it a strategic location with excellent access to central Seoul, Incheon International Airport, and the wider Seoul metropolitan area. Behind it are major industrial and residential clusters, including Digital Media City, Magok Industrial Complex, Eunpyeong New Town, and the Hangdong district, which has long made the site a prime candidate for mixed-use development. In December 2024, the site was reorganized into a separate zone through a revised district unit plan notice, making flexible and independent project implementation possible.
 The project is expected to become a key axis that will reshape the entire northwest area, as it is linked with major development projects underway nearby, including the Susaek station-area redevelopment promotion project and the construction of Lotte Mall at Digital Media City. It is also expected to help ease regional imbalances by completing a pedestrian and commercial corridor that will organically connect Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, and Susaek-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, which had previously been divided by railway land.
 The public call for proposals will run until October 23. Korea National Railway plans to select a preferred negotiator after comprehensively evaluating proposals for commercial, office, and cultural mixed-use concepts, as well as measures to revitalize the area and secure both public value and profitability.  Lee Ahn-ho, acting chairman of Korea National Railway, said, "Digital Media City Station on the Gyeongui Line is a strategic location with excellent transportation access and strong development conditions," adding, "Through this public call, we will maximize the value of idle railway land and set an example of station-area mixed-use development that balances public value and business viability."
