Gachon Cultural Foundation Opens Nationwide Call for the 28th Gachon Filial Piety Award

[Financial News, Incheon = Reporter Han Gap-soo] Gachon Cultural Foundation is launching a nationwide call to find sons and daughters who have practiced filial piety.
Gachon Cultural Foundation said on the 25th that it will accept nominations for the 28th Gachon Filial Piety Award from across the country from the 27th through Sept. 17. Launched in 1999, the award has produced a total of 348 winners through last year and has established itself as one of Korea's leading awards for filial piety.
This year, the foundation will select 17 winners in four categories: the Gachon Filial Piety Award for youth, the Multicultural Daughters-in-Law Award for immigrant women, the Filial Piety Education Award for schools and teachers, and the Multicultural Supporter Award for organizations.
Winners will receive a plaque and prize money of 10 million won for the grand prize, 5 million won for the main prize, and 3 million won for the special prize. They will also receive a lifetime reduction in inpatient medical fees at Gachon University Gil Medical Center and two free comprehensive health checkup vouchers worth 1 million won. Institutions that produce winners will be given educational equipment and publicity support worth about 2 million won.
The Gachon Filial Piety Award is open to teenagers and young adults aged 11 to 24 who respect their parents and elders and serve as role models for others. The Multicultural Daughters-in-Law Award is for marriage migrant women who devote themselves to their in-laws and build healthy families. The Filial Piety Education Award is for schools or teachers that preserve and promote filial piety culture, while the Multicultural Supporter Award is for organizations that have helped multicultural families settle and become self-reliant.
Applications can be submitted online through the Gachon Cultural Foundation website or by completing an application form and sending it by registered mail. Winners are expected to be announced in November after on-site inspections and deliberations by a review committee made up of experts from various fields.
Gachon Cultural Foundation established the Gachon Filial Piety Award in 1999 to widely promote the spirit of filial piety, following its donation of a statue of Sim Cheong at the time of the construction of Simcheonggak in Baengnyeong-myeon, Jawoldo Island, Incheon. Since then, it has continued to discover and encourage stories of people who practice filial piety and to help spread filial piety culture.
