【Financial News, Suwon = Reporter Jang Choong-sik】 The personal information of Kim Sang-su, 52, who brutally killed his former lover out of resentment after she filed a stalking complaint with police, has been released.
According to police on the 25th, the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency will post Kim Sang-su's name, age and mugshot on its official website for one month, from 9 a.m. on this day until 9 a.m. on Sept. 24. Once the disclosure period ends, the information will be deleted immediately.
Police had previously convened a review committee on the disclosure of personal information on the 18th and decided to release Kim Sang-su's identity.
However, because the suspect objected to the decision and filed an appeal, a legal grace period was applied and the disclosure was delayed.
Under the Act on the Disclosure of Personal Information of Specific Serious Crime Suspects, if a suspect does not consent to the release of personal information, a grace period of at least five days must be observed.
Kim Sang-su is accused of fatally stabbing a woman in her 60s, whom he had dated for about four years before they broke up, several times with a knife he had prepared in advance around 3 a.m. on the 5th of last month in Sangdaewon-dong, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam-si.
Investigators found that Kim Sang-su, facing possible criminal punishment after the victim filed a stalking complaint, held a grudge and planned the crime in advance, including by purchasing a knife beforehand.
After concluding that the crime was both brutal and premeditated, police applied charges under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes for revenge killing, which carries a heavier sentence than ordinary murder, and sent Kim Sang-su to prosecutors in custody on the 19th.
