Mayor of Daegu Choo Kyung-ho Leads Efforts to Build an Integrity-Driven City Administration

Daegu Metropolitan City held the third regular meeting of the Integrity Leap Promotion Team on the 24th in the main conference room of the Sangyeok Government Complex. The meeting reviewed progress on key action items under the city's "Comprehensive Plan for Anti-Corruption and Integrity Policies for 2026."
The meeting went beyond simply checking implementation results. It was held to examine whether integrity policies are actually changing the organization's culture and work practices, and to come up with practical improvement measures.
Mayor Choo emphasized, "We must ensure that the tasks currently under way lead to meaningful improvements in work, and we need to pursue integrity policies that citizens can truly feel."
The city is advancing anti-corruption and integrity policies around four major strategies and 32 detailed action items this year. It is focusing on setting an example at the top, especially among the mayor and senior officials, while concentrating resources on improving weak areas based on the results of its own integrity assessment.
At the meeting, which was chaired by the mayor, 23 people including the vice mayor for administration and bureau and office heads attended. They reviewed progress on this year's four major strategies: upgrading the anti-corruption and integrity policy system, improving vulnerable areas and preemptively blocking misconduct, strengthening the effectiveness and sustainability of anti-corruption and integrity systems, and normalizing public-sector innovation and integrity culture. They also discussed ways to carry out six key integrity tasks in the second half of the year.
In particular, the mayor plans to directly review progress on the second-half priority tasks to improve the effectiveness of integrity policies.
Earlier, the city released a short-form video on the YouTube channel "Daegu TV" showing the mayor and senior officials pledging to carry out their own integrity commitments and putting them into practice.
Starting with Mayor Choo, senior officials including the vice mayor for administration and the head of the planning and coordination office are expected to take part one after another.
The relay was designed to move integrity beyond declarations and slogans. The goal is for the head of the institution and senior officials to examine areas in the organization that need improvement, set specific action items, and drive change across the workplace.
The video also departs from the traditional uniform format for integrity pledges. It was produced as a short-form video featuring both senior officials and employees. Staff members reenacted the action items as if they were real-life situations, making it easier and more natural to understand examples they may encounter on the job. Humor was also added to make the integrity message more relatable.
Mayor Choo said, "I will be an integrity-focused mayor who minimizes unnecessary protocol and listens directly to the voices of employees and citizens." He added, "I will simplify formality while strengthening communication and consideration, and I will manage work more smartly so that integrity becomes a guiding principle throughout city administration."
