Foreign Minister Cho Hyun Holds Call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Discusses Korean Peninsula Issues

[Financial News] Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the 24th and exchanged views on recent issues surrounding the Korean Peninsula and South Korea–United States relations.
The two ministers agreed that, amid recent shifts in the international landscape, close communication between Seoul and Washington is more important than ever.
They also agreed to pool their wisdom to produce mutually beneficial results on a range of bilateral issues, including tariff and investment agreements, shipbuilding, and security cooperation, so that South Korea–United States relations can be elevated further.
They also agreed to continue close communication and coordination between the two countries to maintain a strong South Korea-U.S. combined defense posture while working toward peace on the Korean Peninsula and the resolution of the North Korean nuclear issue.
Cho said the South Korean government would also do its utmost so that recent messages from U.S. President Donald Trump could lead to the resumption of North Korea–United States dialogue and peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Secretary Rubio explained recent developments in the Middle East, including Iran, and outlined U.S. efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
Cho, meanwhile, praised President Trump and the United States for their active leadership in addressing the Middle East issue. He also stressed South Korea's willingness to make practical contributions to restoring free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and said the two sides should continue discussing specific measures. The two ministers agreed to meet in person in the near future and continue in-depth talks on major pending issues.
