Heat wave advisory covers most of Seoul as showers and highs of 36 C expected in the Capital Region on the 25th

[Financial News]  On the 24th, heat wave advisories were issued for most of Seoul, parts of Gyeonggi Province and North Jeolla Province, and central Daegu. As the nighttime heat continues, showers of up to 60 mm are expected in the Capital Region, Gangwon State and the northern part of North Chungcheong Province on the 25th, while daytime highs could climb to 36 C. In some areas of Gyeonggi Province, Jeollanam-do, North Gyeongsang Province, South Gyeongsang Province and Jeju Province, heat alerts will be upgraded to warnings.
According to the Korean Meteorological Administration, a heat wave advisory took effect at 6 p.m. in Seoul, excluding the southwest. Advisories were also issued for Yangju, Uijeongbu, Guri, Osan, Gunpo, Uiwang, Hanam-si, Anseong and Gwangju in Gyeonggi Province, as well as central Daegu. In North Jeolla Province, advisories took effect in Gimje, Iksan, Buan County and parts of Okdo-myeon in Gunsan.
The KMA forecast that, for the time being, some urban and coastal areas will see nighttime temperatures fail to drop enough, leading to tropical nights with lows staying above 25 C.
On the 25th, showers are expected mainly in the Capital Region, Gangwon State and northern North Chungcheong Province. Between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., 5 to 60 mm of rain is forecast for northeastern Gyeonggi Province and the inland and mountainous areas of northern Gangwon State. Seoul, Incheon, northwestern and southeastern Gyeonggi Province, and the inland and mountainous areas of central and southern Gangwon State are expected to receive 5 to 40 mm.
The northern east coast of Gangwon State is expected to receive 5 to 20 mm of rain, while northern North Chungcheong Province may see 5 to 30 mm. Strong gusts, thunder and lightning may accompany the showers in some areas.
Temperatures will temporarily dip while the showers fall, but they are expected to rise again after the rain stops amid high humidity.
Morning lows on the 25th are forecast at 21 to 26 C, with daytime highs ranging from 31 to 36 C. For now, temperatures will remain above seasonal norms of 19 to 23 C for lows and 27 to 30 C for highs.
With heat alerts in place across most of the country, the perceived temperature is expected to rise to around 33 C. In some parts of the Capital Region, Gangwon's east coast, the Chungcheong area and the southern regions, it may climb to around 35 C.
At 11 a.m. on the 25th, more areas will see their heat alerts upgraded. In eastern and western Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province, as well as northern and southern Yeongam County and northern Haenam County in Jeollanam-do, the alerts will be changed to warnings.
In North Gyeongsang Province, warnings will be issued for Yeongcheon, Cheongdo County, Seongju, Uiseong County, southern Gimcheon, southeastern Andong, western Andong, the lowlands of Yeongyang, and the lowlands of Bonghwa. In South Gyeongsang Province, northern Sancheong County, southern Geochang County and central Hapcheon County will also be upgraded to heat wave warnings. Jeju City's northern area will be changed to a warning at the same time. A heat wave advisory will also be newly issued at 11 a.m. on the 25th for Yeonpyeong Island and Udo in the Five West Sea Islands.
