Gangneung City Launches Public Institution Attraction Committee, Prepares for Second Relocation Round

[Financial News, Gangneung = Kim Gi-seop] Gangneung City has launched a public institution attraction committee made up of experts from the public and private sectors, along with citizens, as it prepares for the second round of public institution relocations and has begun an all-out effort to secure the institutions.
According to Gangneung City on the 24th, the launch ceremony and policy seminar for the Gangneung City Public Institution Attraction Committee were held that day in the second-floor conference room of City Hall, and the city decided to begin full-scale attraction efforts. About 100 people attended the event, including Gangneung Mayor Kim Jung-nam and Gangneung City Council Chair Heo Byeong-gwan, as well as experts and citizens from various fields, reflecting the community's shared commitment to attracting public institutions.
The event was organized to publicize Gangneung's determination to host the institutions ahead of the second round of public institution relocations and to build consensus on a strategy tailored to the region, thereby strengthening the foundation for its bid. In the first session, the committee was launched and participants reaffirmed their resolve, gathering citizens' hopes for the effort.
In the second session, Hong Jun-hyeon, chair of the Committee on Delegation of Authority and Special Cases under the Presidential Committee for the Era of Local Autonomy and a professor at Chung-Ang University, delivered the keynote speech under the theme, "A New Direction for the Second Round of Public Institution Relocation." The following panel discussion was moderated by Kim Young-sik, a professor at the Gangneung Campus of Kangwon National University, and included committee members such as Gangneung City Council member Shin Bo-geum, heads of major media outlets, and academic experts. They discussed in depth the need for and strategy behind attracting institutions linked to region-specific industries.
Gangneung City plans to use this event as an opportunity to further unite the capabilities of citizens and the local community and to refine its attraction strategy with additional expert advice from the committee. It also intends to expand its outreach efforts to the central government, the National Assembly, and related agencies.
Gangneung Mayor Kim Jung-nam said, "We will bring together all the strength of the region, using the newly launched attraction committee as a focal point," adding, "We will make attracting public institutions a key task for securing Gangneung's future growth engine and achieve notable results in the second relocation round."
