[Financial News] The Audit and Inspection Office of the Korean National Police Agency said on the 24th that it has launched an inspection to verify the facts surrounding the handling of the case and the overall command and supervision system in connection with the false closure of a missing person case in Jeju.
The inspection is expected to examine the process from the time Jang's missing person report was filed until the case was closed. It will also look into whether supervision of the officer in charge was carried out properly.
Jang disappeared after leaving the lodging in Jeju where she had been staying long-term at around 10:15 p.m. on May 12. Her partner, who had been staying with her, reported her missing to the Jeju Western Police Station three days later, on the 15th.
Investigators found that Officer A, who handled the case at the time, told the reporter that "Jang had been reached and was safe," even though he had not actually contacted her.
