KCCI Nominates Former KIEP President Lee Si-wook as Head of Economic Research

[Financial News] The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) announced on the 24th that it has nominated Lee Si-wook, former president of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), as the new head of economic research, a position created to strengthen its research capabilities in the economic and industrial sectors.
Lee recently passed the employment review by the Public Service Ethics Committee in the Government and is expected to begin work as KCCI's head of economic research on Sept. 1 after completing the remaining procedures.
Earlier this year, KCCI pushed ahead with an organizational overhaul and restructured its operating system to reinforce its research expertise in the economic and industrial fields.
The newly created head of economic research will oversee KCCI's research functions in the economic and industrial sectors and is expected to help enhance its expertise on major economic issues and its ability to make policy recommendations.
Lee graduated from the Department of Economics at Yonsei University and earned a master's degree in applied economics from Université Paris Dauphine-PSL and a doctorate in economics from the University of Michigan.
He served as a research fellow at the Korea Development Institute (KDI), a professor at KDI School of Public Policy and Management (KDI School), and president of the Korean International Trade Association. Since 2023, he has led KIEP and is widely regarded as an expert with extensive research achievements and deep insight into macroeconomics and trade policy.
A KCCI official said, "We expect that bringing in Lee Si-wook, whose capabilities have been proven through his work in academia and at state-run research institutes, will further refine the chamber's economic research and policy proposal functions," adding, "We will continue to present practical alternatives on the rapidly changing global trade environment and key domestic industrial issues on behalf of the business community."
