[Financial News] As a poll released on the 24th showed that President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating for state affairs had fallen for six straight weeks to its lowest level since taking office, Cheong Wa Dae stressed that it would closely review government operations overall.
At a briefing at the Chunchugwan Press Center that day, Kang Yoo-jung said in response to a question about Cheong Wa Dae's position on the drop in approval ratings, "We will place people's lives at the top of state affairs and closely review government operations overall."
She added, "We will do our utmost to deliver tangible results so that these efforts and changes can be felt on the front lines of people's livelihoods and the economy."
Realmeter, commissioned by Energy Economy Newspaper, surveyed 2,026 voters aged 18 and older nationwide from the 18th to the 21st. The share of respondents who gave a positive assessment of Lee's performance came in at 40.2 percent. That was down 2.8 percentage points from the previous week, marking a sixth consecutive weekly decline and a new post-inauguration low.
Negative assessments rose 2.8 percentage points from the previous week to 56.9 percent. The gap between positive and negative ratings widened to 16.7 percentage points, and negative views have outpaced positive ones for four straight weeks, beyond the margin of error of 95 percent confidence level, plus or minus 2.2 percentage points. The share of those who answered "don't know" was 3.0 percent. 
The government is also reviewing whether to revise the tax reform plan announced on the 3rd. A Cheong Wa Dae official said, "To improve the completeness of the policy and public acceptance, we are carefully examining various opinions and the results of consultations between the ruling party and the government."
The margin of error for the presidential approval survey was plus or minus 2.2 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level, and the response rate was 3.2 percent. More details are available on the website of the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission.
