Incheon Metropolitan Council to Hold Policy Forum on Sept. 1-2, Seeking Solutions to Citizens' Issues

[Financial News, Incheon = Reporter Han Gap-su] The Incheon Metropolitan Council will begin full-scale policy discussions on local issues directly tied to residents' lives after the launch of its 10th council.
The council said on the 24th that it will hold the "2026 Incheon Metropolitan Council Policy Forum" on Sept. 1-2 in the main lobby of the council building and in committee meeting rooms and seminar rooms.
This will be the first policy forum organized by the 10th Incheon Metropolitan Council, which launched on July 1. More than 100 people will take part, including 45 council members, 32 legislative development advisory committee members, 15 public institutions affiliated with the Incheon Policy Research Network (ICReN), and experts in various fields.
The Incheon Policy Research Network is a joint policy research council made up of 15 public institutions that work together to study major local issues and seek solutions. At this event, the committees will focus on six policy topics selected from 20 proposals submitted by participating institutions, taking into account policy impact and urgency.
On the first day, Sept. 1, the council will hold an opening ceremony, introduce the 10th Incheon Metropolitan Council, present appointment letters to members of the 8th legislative development advisory committee, and explain the purpose of the forum. It will then hold a plenary meeting of the advisory committee to discuss the future direction of legislative development and policy advice.
The main policy discussions will be held by committee on Sept. 2. The Security and Public Administration Committee will discuss "Practical Measures to Raise Disaster Safety Awareness in Incheon," the Culture and Welfare Committee will address "Policy Directions for Incheon Based on Working Conditions of Care Workers," and the Industry and Economy Committee will examine "The Risks of Late-Life Entrepreneurship and Local Government Support Measures."
The Urban Construction Committee will discuss "A Shift in Urban Paradigms: From Smart Cities to AI Cities," the Environment and Transportation Committee will take up "Current Air Quality in Underground Stations and Preemptive Response Measures," and the Education Committee will focus on "Teacher Mental Health Policy: A Shift Toward Prevention."
Each forum will be chaired by the committee chairperson, with participation from council members of the relevant committee, subcommittee members of the legislative development advisory committee, Incheon city officials, and experts in each field.
In particular, the council plans to go beyond simply collecting opinions and link the forum results to actual legislative and policy action. Research projects that require implementation will be carried forward through the council's own legislation, including the enactment or revision of ordinances, or through policy proposals to Incheon City.
Chairperson Park Jong-hyeok said, "I expect this policy forum to become a starting point for bringing together the wisdom of experts from various fields and civil society to find new policy directions for Incheon together."
