On the 25th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said it had revised the guidelines for the railway vehicle driver’s license exam and the railway traffic control qualification exam, and that the changes took effect that day. For families with multiple children, the written and practical tests for the railway vehicle driver’s license exam, as well as the academic and practical tests for the railway traffic control qualification exam, will cost only half the usual fee.
For the railway vehicle driver’s license exam, the discount category has been expanded beyond basic livelihood recipients and single-parent family support beneficiaries to include lower-income households. For the controller qualification exam, families with multiple children have been added to the existing list of eligible groups, which already includes recipients, lower-income households, and single-parent family support beneficiaries.
With the reduction applied, the written test fee for the driver’s license exam will fall from 77,000 won to 38,500 won, while the practical test fee will drop from 220,000-253,000 won to 110,000-126,500 won. For the controller qualification exam, the academic test fee will be cut from 77,000 won to 38,500 won, and the practical test fee from 206,500 won to 103,250 won.
The revised guidelines will apply starting with the 7th regular railway vehicle driver’s license exam in October. Applications for the written test will be accepted from Oct. 6 to 7, and applications for the practical test from Oct. 19 to 20.
To receive the discount, applicants must submit a fee reduction application form, a family relation certificate, and other supporting documents depending on eligibility, such as a lower-income household verification document, to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority after filing their application. Details on how to apply and what documents are required can be found on the authority’s website and in the application guide.
