On the 24th, the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea National Park Service at its headquarters in Wonju to prevent mine damage caused by abandoned mines in national parks and to preserve the ecological value of national parks.
The two organizations agreed to cooperate on the exchange of information and technology related to mine damage prevention projects and ecological restoration, joint surveys of polluted areas and discussions on countermeasures, the promotion of mine damage prevention projects in national parks, and the Forest Carbon Offset Program.
The agreement is expected to help the corporation's mine damage prevention projects in national parks proceed in a more systematic and efficient way, while also improving the quality of ecological restoration efforts in the parks. It is also expected to contribute to the policy goal of carbon neutrality through the Forest Carbon Offset Program.
President Hwang said, "This agreement will help improve the quality of mine damage prevention projects in national parks and combine the strengths of both organizations," adding, "We will continue to work closely with the Korea National Park Service to help create pleasant and healthy national parks."
