[Financial News] Additional underage victims have been identified in connection with former Cheongju City Council member Choi Young-joong, who was arrested on charges of child prostitution.
On the 24th, the Cheongju Cheongwon Police Station sent the case to prosecutors after uncovering signs of additional offenses by Choi, who is accused of statutory rape of a minor, violations of the Act on the Protection of Children and Youth Against Sexual Abuse, including prostitution, production of sexual exploitation material, and conversations for sexual exploitation purposes, as well as violations of the Child Welfare Act, including coercion into obscene acts, mediation, and sexual harassment.
During the investigation, which was based on Choi's communication records and other evidence, police reportedly found signs that he committed sex crimes against two additional minors, in addition to the two victims already identified.
As a result, the number of victims in Choi's sex crime case has risen to four.
Based on the case records, prosecutors plan to conduct supplementary investigations and indict Choi around the 25th, when his detention period expires.
Choi is already accused of having sex with a middle school student three times over the course of a year starting in October 2024, in cars and motels, and of demanding nude photos.
He also allegedly offered to pay more if the victim brought along a friend and an older sister, and sent messages suggesting that he would show videos of himself having sex with another woman or have sex with a woman of another nationality together.
In addition, he is accused of committing sex crimes around the same period, including receiving body photos from another minor.
