【New Delhi, India = Reporter Pragya Awasthi】LG Electronics India Limited is pushing ahead with plans to strengthen India as a global production and export hub by expanding exports and its business-to-business (B2B) operations. The strategy is designed to boost growth and profitability while responding to rising raw material costs, a weaker Indian rupee, and geopolitical risks.
According to local media reports on the 25th, the company unveiled the export expansion plan at its first regular shareholders' meeting on the 21st. Products made in India are currently exported to more than 50 countries, including Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and advanced economies. Exports account for about 6% of total sales.
LG Electronics plans to expand overseas shipments of products made in India and further strengthen the country's role as a global manufacturing base. In particular, it aims to increase the number of countries where its newly launched LG Essential Series is sold to 22 by the end of 2026. Through this, the company seeks to raise the share of India-made products supplied to global markets and diversify export destinations. It also plans to develop its B2B product business into a new growth engine alongside consumer electronics and home appliances.
Sanjay Chitkara, co-chief sales and marketing officer at LG Electronics India Limited, said, "We are currently exporting products made in India to more than 50 countries, and in 2026 we aim to export the LG Essential Series to 22 countries."
LG Electronics has invested 5 billion rupees, or 72.15 billion won, in its Sri City plant in Andhra Pradesh, which will be used as an export base. The plant is expected to begin operations in December this year.
LG Electronics is also focusing on the growth potential of India's domestic market. Jeon Hong-ju, head of LG Electronics India Limited, said the penetration rates of major home appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners remain low in India, leaving significant room for growth. Appliance penetration in India stands at around 30% for refrigerators, 20% for washing machines, and 10% for room air conditioners. LG Electronics expects demand to rise further as the policy and tax environment for air conditioners and large TVs improves.
LG Electronics said it will strengthen its position in the Indian market by highlighting innovation, customer experience, and cooperation with distribution partners as its core strengths. At the same time, it plans to expand exports and its B2B business to develop India into a key production base in the global supply chain.
