[Financial News] Ateum is expanding its push into the North American market by joining forces with U.S. electric commercial vehicle company Harbinger Motors to co-develop key electronic components for large commercial trucks.
Ateum announced on the 24th that it has begun co-developing a '22 kW ultra-slim ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) transformer' for large commercial trucks with Harbinger Motors. The project follows Ateum's equity investment in Harbinger Motors last year.
The jointly developed product is a 22 kW ICCU transformer, twice the output of the 11 kW class commonly used in passenger EVs. In higher-output products, technology that suppresses heat while reducing component size is critical, making thermal performance and miniaturization key competitive advantages.
Ateum plans to apply its proprietary planar magnetic technology to lower the product height compared with conventional wound transformers and improve space utilization inside commercial vehicles. The company is targeting stable thermal management and efficiency of more than 97% in the 22 kW high-output environment.
The companies also plan to design the product to meet the vibration and durability standards required for large commercial vehicles, while taking future automation in mass production into account. The two firms recently completed an inspection of Ateum's production plant in Vietnam and have now entered full-scale co-development.
Harbinger Motors is a U.S. company that develops chassis platforms for medium- and heavy-duty electric commercial vehicles. Through this co-development, Ateum aims to win future mass-production projects for Harbinger's electric commercial vehicle platforms and enter the North American electronic component supply chain.
An Ateum official said, "It is meaningful that we have built a strategic technology partnership to enter the core electronic component supply chain for next-generation electric commercial vehicles, going beyond a simple financial investment relationship with Harbinger Motors."
Ateum is expanding its power component business for electronic systems from the passenger EV market, where it supplies 11 kW and 22 kW products through Hyundai Mobis and LS Automotive Technologies, to large commercial vehicles. After recently completing a paid-in capital increase, the company is also pushing ahead with full-line automation at its production base in Vietnam.
Ateum CEO Han Taek-su said, "Our equity investment in Harbinger Motors has led to practical technology cooperation in the co-development of key 22 kW components for large commercial vehicles." He added, "Based on our ultra-slim, high-efficiency power conversion technology, we will fully accelerate our push into the global electric commercial vehicle market, including North America."
