[Financial News] Even while carrying debts of nearly 19 billion won, actor Im Chae-moo has continued his acts of giving. This time, he invited people with developmental disabilities to Doori Land.
On the 19th, JTBC's 'Close Camera' segment on 'JTBC Newsroom' showed people with developmental disabilities enjoying the rides at Doori Land, where Im Chae-moo serves as CEO.
Earlier, on the 6th, Im Chae-moo signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the social welfare foundation Dowon Welfare Center and was appointed its official ambassador. After recently meeting a person with a developmental disability by chance, he formed the agreement and made Doori Land open to people with developmental disabilities at any time.
Im Chae-moo said, "To be honest, I could not tell children with Down syndrome from children with autism," and added, "When I met them in person, they were even more innocent and pure. These children can do everything and enjoy everything, but we had been looking at them with prejudice."
Located in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province, Doori Land is an amusement park Im Chae-moo built with his own money. It opened in 1989. It later closed in October 2017 for environmental issues such as fine dust and for indoor renovation work, but reopened in 2020.
At the beginning of Doori Land's operation, Im Chae-moo saw a family worrying because they did not have the 8,000 won admission fee, so he let them in for free and abolished the entrance fee from that day on. It was also belatedly revealed that he kept his promise to buy apartments for employees who worked for three years, giving apartments to 26 employees.
He previously appeared on KBS2's variety show 'Boss in the Mirror' and revealed that Doori Land's total debt stood at 19 billion won, with monthly interest alone at about 80 million won and fixed monthly expenses at 120 million won. Even so, he has continued his efforts to give back.
Meanwhile, Im Chae-moo, who debuted in 1973 as a publicly recruited actor for Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC)'s sixth class, won wide popularity through dramas such as 'Under the Same Roof' and 'Country Diaries.'
