All heat advisories issued for the Capital Region will be lifted at 11 a.m. on the 20th. The center of the heat will shift south to Chungcheong and the southern regions, including Jeolla, Gyeongsang and Jeju Province. A heat warning will remain in western Ulsan, the only area in the country still under the highest-level alert, as intense heat continues mainly across the Yeongnam region.
According to the Korean Meteorological Administration on the 20th, all heat advisories for Seoul, Gyeonggi Province and Incheon in the Capital Region will be lifted at 11 a.m. The heat advisory that remained in Gangwon State will also be canceled.
Even after 6 p.m. the previous day, heat advisories had remained in Ansan-si, Goyang, Pyeongtaek, Anseong, southern Yongin, southeastern Yeoju, western Yeoju and Ganghwa County in Incheon, as well as Yeongwol County and the plains of Jeongseon County in Gangwon State. They were all included in the list of areas to be lifted this morning.
By contrast, heat advisories will continue in Chungcheong and the southern regions. Advisories are in effect for Gongju, Asan, Nonsan, Geumsan County, Buyeo County, Cheongyang County and eastern Hongseong County in South Chungcheong Province, as well as Okcheon, Yeongdong, eastern Cheongju and western Cheongju in North Chungcheong Province. They also remain in place for Daejeon and southern Sejong City.
The heat will also persist across the Jeolla and Gyeongsang regions. Heat advisories are in place for parts of Jeollanam-do and North Jeolla Province, as well as Gwangju, and for wide areas of North Gyeongsang Province and South Gyeongsang Province. Advisories are also in effect for Daegu, Busan and eastern Ulsan Metropolitan City.
Western Ulsan Metropolitan City remains under a heat warning, one level higher than a heat advisory. It is currently the highest heat alert in the country. No extreme heat emergency warning is in effect anywhere.
Jeju Province is also expected to stay hot, as heat advisories remain in place for most of Jeju City and Seogwipo City.
Even if heat advisories are lifted in the Capital Region, daytime heat will not disappear completely. Some areas may still see temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, but the intense heat that met advisory criteria is expected to ease. In contrast, Chungcheong and the southern regions are likely to continue feeling oppressive because of high temperatures and humidity.
Nighttime heat is also lingering, especially in the southern and coastal areas. Tropical night advisories are in effect for Busan, Ulsan, parts of South Gyeongsang Province, the eastern coast of North Gyeongsang Province and Jeju.
During the day, showers are also possible, mainly in the Chungcheong region and the southern areas. Temperatures may dip temporarily while the showers pass, but once the rain stops and the humidity remains high, the perceived temperature could rise again.
