[Financial News] Blackpink member Jennie has finally taken legal action against people who maliciously edit and spread photos and videos.
On the 18th, her agency, OA Entertainment, said on its official website, "We have continuously confirmed false accusations and the spread of baseless rumors about our artist Jennie on online communities and social networking services, as well as the malicious editing or alteration of the artist's photos and videos, and the posting and distribution of such content in ways that infringe on her privacy and personal rights."
It added, "We are continuing to monitor related posts and accounts and collect evidence in cooperation with our legal representatives, while also pursuing civil and criminal legal action in serious cases of rights violations."
The agency emphasized, "In particular, we will actively take necessary legal measures depending on the nature and severity of the case against malicious editing or reprocessing of the artist's physical features, repeated posting, reposting or distribution of specific photos or video clips, and the addition of insulting expressions or false information to such content. We make it clear that there will be no settlement or leniency in this process."
The legal response stems from controversy that emerged after her stage appearance at SUMMER SONIC 2026, held on the 14th at ZOZO Marine Stadium in Chiba, Japan. Jennie appeared as a headliner that day, and performance videos quickly spread across online communities and SNS. Some clips appeared to show parts of Jennie's body being exposed during the performance, sparking controversy, but it has not been confirmed whether the videos were authentic or manipulated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) or other tools.
Jennie later took the stage again on the 16th at SUMMER SONIC 2026, held at Expo '70 Commemorative Park in Osaka, Japan. During that performance, a microphone malfunction caused an unexpected disruption, and she was also seen repeatedly adjusting her outfit. At times, she appeared overwhelmed with emotion, biting her lip to hold back tears and showing trembling hands. After finishing the set, Jennie gave a final farewell to the audience and burst into tears.
Meanwhile, under Article 14-2 of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, editing or combining a person's face, body or voice into a form that can provoke sexual desire or shame against the person's will for the purpose of distribution may be punishable. If distributed for profit, the penalty can be up to seven years in prison. Following a 2024 legal revision, even simple possession or viewing is subject to punishment, even without intent to distribute.
