Rain to Hit Most of the Country; Heat Advisory Issued for Gochang and Northwestern South Jeolla [FN Weather]

[Financial News] Rain is expected across most of the country through the morning of the 17th, with heavy showers of 20 to 30 mm per hour continuing along the southern coast of South Gyeongsang Province. As the rain weakens somewhat, heavy rain warnings for Tongyeong, Geoje and Goseong were downgraded to heavy rain advisories at 10 a.m. After the rain stops, hot and humid conditions are expected to return, especially in the Jeolla Region, where the perceived temperature could rise to around 33 degrees Celsius.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), as of 10 a.m. that day, strong rain of around 30 mm per hour was falling along the southern coast of South Gyeongsang Province and the eastern southern coast of South Jeolla Province. In the Capital Region, Gangwon State and other southern areas, rainfall of 5 to 10 mm per hour was being recorded, while the Chungcheong Region was seeing about 5 mm per hour.
Rain will continue across most of the country until noon. In South Gyeongsang Province and Jeju Island, intermittent rain is expected through the night. In particular, heavy rain alerts are in effect for the coastal areas of South Gyeongsang Province, the eastern southern coast of South Jeolla Province and Jeju Island, with strong rainfall of 20 to 30 mm per hour likely in parts of the southern coast of South Gyeongsang Province through the morning.
From 9 a.m. on the 15th to 9 a.m. on the 17th, cumulative rainfall reached 810.2 mm in Geoje and 678.9 mm in Tongyeong. Since so much rain has already fallen, the risk of landslides and flooding in low-lying areas remains high even if additional rainfall is limited.
As the rain has eased somewhat, the KMA downgraded heavy rain warnings for Tongyeong, Geoje and Goseong to heavy rain advisories at 10 a.m. that day.
Showers are also expected in areas where the rain has stopped. From the afternoon into the night, showers may fall in the central region, the Jeolla Region and North Gyeongsang Province.
Strong winds and high waves will also require caution. Through the day, very high waves are expected mainly in the southern and eastern offshore waters, while very strong winds are forecast along the coast of South Gyeongsang Province.
Temperatures are expected to rise again. The daytime high will range from 27 to 32 degrees Celsius, slightly higher than the previous day. In particular, heat advisories have been issued for Gochang County in southwestern North Jeolla Province and western South Jeolla Province, and the maximum perceived temperature in the Jeolla Region is expected to climb to around 33 degrees Celsius.
The KMA said it will issue heat advisories from 11 a.m. for Yeongam County, Sinan County excluding Heuksan-myeon, Heuksando Island, Hongdo, northern Muan County in South Jeolla Province and Gochang County in North Jeolla Province.
