Trump Says He Ordered Cutback in U.S.-South Korea Joint Drills, Says He and Kim Jong Un Have a Very Good Relationship

[Financial News] Donald Trump, President of the United States, said on the 16th local time that he had instructed Defense Minister Pete Hegseth to sharply reduce the scale of U.S.-South Korea joint military drills.
In a post on Truth Social that day, Trump said, "Given that North Korean Chairperson Kim Jong Un and I have a very good relationship, I do not like the fact that the United States has long agreed to take part in joint military exercises with South Korea."
He added that the U.S.-South Korea drills are costly and send "an inappropriate and hostile signal" to a country that poses no threat to the United States and has respected it.
He then said, "Accordingly, and given that it is now too late to cancel them, I have instructed Minister Hegseth to significantly reduce the scale of the joint exercises."
