[Financial News] The stock of The BORN Korea, the restaurant franchise company led by Paik Jong-won, posted its biggest gain of the year on the back of improved second-quarter earnings.
According to the Korea Exchange on the 15th, The BORN Korea closed the previous day at 15,890 won, up 12.78% from the prior session. At one point during trading, it jumped more than 26% and briefly topped 17,000 won. That marked both the largest increase and the biggest gain rate so far this year. The rebound drew market attention because it came after a long stretch of declines that had continued since the company's listing. After its Nov. 6, 2024 debut, the stock had fallen to less than half of its 34,000-won offering price within about two years. The sharp rise appears to have been driven by improved second-quarter results. In a disclosure released the previous day, The BORN Korea said it posted consolidated revenue of 83.2 billion won and an operating loss of 5.6 billion won in the second quarter of this year. Although it remained in the red, revenue rose 12% from a year earlier and the operating loss narrowed by 75%, showing a clear improvement in profitability. After weathering its worst slump and reviving signs of an earnings recovery, The BORN Korea now plans to turn sentiment around through expansion. The company said it will actively pursue new growth engines through mergers and acquisitions and overseas business expansion.
