Yeo Han-koo, Minister for Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, will be replaced.
On the 15th, the ministry said Yeo was dismissed from office at 12:00 a.m. that day.
Yeo, who served as director of trade policy and later as Minister for Trade during the Moon Jae-in administration, was brought back as Minister for Trade when the Lee Jae Myung administration took office.
He has overseen negotiations with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) on non-tariff barriers with the United States, including agricultural products.
A ministry official said, "Personnel appointments for political posts fall within the authority and political judgment of the appointing authority, so please understand that it would be inappropriate for the ministry to comment on the background." The official added, "We are doing our utmost to ensure there is no disruption to trade issues in line with the appointing authority's personnel decision."
