Chun Ha-ram: "Military training felt like I was going to die... Our troops' hard work is tremendous"

[Financial News] Chun Ha-ram, who entered the KATC in Nonsan and received three days of basic training, said on the 14th, "I really felt like I was going to die during training," adding, "For me, it was only temporary, but the hard work of our troops who defend the country is truly tremendous."
Chun said in a post on social networking service (SNS) that day, "I participated in the KATC training in Nonsan and came away with a lot to think about and a lot of surprises."
He said, "The training was tough, but wearing a military uniform and living in a group in this heat is no joke. I respect every service member," and added, "Above all, the young people in their 20s whom I saw firsthand at the training center were inspiring in themselves."
He went on to emphasize, "The trainees in their early 20s, as well as the career soldiers serving as drill instructors at a similar age, were all doing their best in training. In particular, the trainees showed comradeship by helping one another even in hot and difficult conditions, and that was truly moving."
Chun added, "There have recently been remarks in politics that belittle or try to lecture people in their 20s, especially young men in their 20s, but I was reminded once again that our young generation in their 20s is carrying out its assigned roles more diligently and faithfully than anyone else. I am also very grateful to the comrades from Squad 3, Platoon 1, Company 11, Training Battalion 3, Regiment 27, KATC, who helped this tired old man so diligently and shared plenty of snacks during the night march, almost like free-time food."
He also said he could feel the changes at the training center over the three days he experienced there. Chun said, "Did you know that smartwatches are now being used at training centers? I actually wore a smartwatch during training myself," adding, "Some training regiments have not yet adopted them, but they are expected to be introduced soon, and I will also keep track of whether the budget is properly secured."
He also said, "It felt like a very desirable change that every living quarters at the training center now has air conditioning," and praised the fact that the training center cafeteria is being operated by a professional contractor.
Chun said, "The training system during the hottest season was highly scientific and efficient," adding, "During the hottest hours of the day, they prevented heat-related illnesses through nap time and personal maintenance, while during training, heatwave response equipment and the medical system were fully in operation, ensuring both safety and training results."
Earlier, Chun entered the KATC in Nonsan on the 12th to receive basic training. As a member assigned to the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly, his aim was to experience firsthand the military life that active-duty soldiers go through. Chun's office had previously said, "We will physically experience the treatment and living conditions of our troops, who quietly carry out their duties for the country even in the heat, and reflect that in future National Defense Committee activities and policy questions."
