Blue House Says 4-Year, Two-Term Presidential System With Stronger Parliamentary Powers Has Highest Public Acceptance

It added that a 4-year, two-term presidential system with stronger parliamentary powers is considered to have the highest level of public acceptance.
A Blue House official met reporters at the Chunchugwan Press Center at the Blue House that day and reaffirmed President Lee's principled position on constitutional revision.
The official stressed that constitutional revision requires the support of more than 200 lawmakers in the National Assembly, so it is preferable for the issue to be discussed and advanced there.
The official added, "The idea is to address the limits of an imperial presidency with a two-term presidential system, so it is not a cabinet system." The official also said, "Nor was it meant to specifically refer to a decentralized presidential system."
The official added, "President Lee's principle is that a constitutional amendment should be pursued through agreement, and since he has said this many times, I am reaffirming that principle again."
According to political circles, President Lee recently held a series of golf meetings with senior lawmakers from the People Power Party, including four-term lawmaker Kim Tae-ho. He is said to have remarked, in connection with constitutional revision for a decentralized power structure, that "I think we should amend the constitution, even if it means shortening my own term." This has fueled speculation that discussions on constitutional revision may accelerate.
