[Financial News] DEEPX is expanding the market for domestically developed neural processing units (NPUs) after securing more than $13 million, or about 1.8 billion won, in commercial purchase orders (POs) in the global market just one year after mass-producing its on-device artificial intelligence (AI) chip, the DX-M1.
DEEPX said on the 14th that it had secured a total of 77 POs worth more than $13 million over the past year since the DX-M1 entered mass production, with orders coming from about 10 countries and regions, including Korea, the United States, China, Europe, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and India.
The DX-M1 is DEEPX's first mass-produced ultra-low-power NPU for on-device use, manufactured on Samsung Electronics' 5-nanometer process. It can perform AI computations directly on the device without connecting to the cloud. Commercialization is underway in eight industries, including robotics, smart factories and manufacturing automation, smart mobility, aviation, Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), healthcare, edge computing, and video surveillance and security.
Orders are also rising quickly. Cumulative POs for the DX-M1 increased from two in the third quarter of last year to six in the fourth quarter, then to 29 at the end of March this year, 56 at the end of May, and 77 at the end of July. Beyond supplying development kits and evaluation products, the chip is now being used in actual customer product development, production and delivery, including drones, machine vision cameras, robots, industrial equipment and medical AI devices.
Before mass production, DEEPX conducted pre-launch evaluations of its products for more than 400 companies over a period of two to three years. After mass production began, the company built overseas supply chains with 27 global semiconductor distribution partners and is expanding its application lineup by working with more than 50 global hardware and module companies.
CEO Kim Nok-won said, "We view it as significant that actual orders and repeat orders are being generated in many markets around the world, not limited to a specific country or industry." He added, "Based on the mass-production experience and global customer base we secured over the past year, we will begin expanding AI semiconductor technology developed in Korea into the global market in earnest."
