[Financial News] The first trial of Kim Se-ui, the head of the Garo Sero Research Institute, who was indicted on charges of defaming actor Kim Soo-hyun, has been postponed.
Judge Kim Yu-rang of the Criminal Division 14, Single Judge at the Seoul Central District Court had been scheduled to hold the first hearing at 10:40 a.m. for Kim and five others on charges including defamation, distribution of illegally filmed material under the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, and violations of the Stalking Punishment Act. However, the court postponed the hearing date and will set it later.
Kim's side reportedly submitted a statement of intent to the court on the 13th, one day before the trial, along with a written opinion from his lawyer, saying he hoped for a jury trial.
Kim is accused of broadcasting YouTube videos from March to December last year that made it appear as if Kim Soo-hyun had dated the late Kim Sae-ron for six years, even though they had not. The videos allegedly used manipulated KakaoTalk chat screenshots and false audio recordings.
He was also indicted for spreading false claims about popular mukbang YouTuber Tzuyang, whose real name is Park Jeong-won, and repeatedly airing content that exposed her private life. The first hearing in that case was held the previous day, on the 13th, and Kim denied the charges.
