Each company held board meetings on the 12th and approved the merger. The process is expected to be completed within this year.
The merger involves wholly owned subsidiaries in which Kakao Entertainment Corp. holds a 100% stake. The combined company will keep the existing Samyang C&C name, and Cha Seong-taek, CEO of Samyang C&C, is expected to lead the new entity.
Kakao Entertainment Corp. said the decision was aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of its story IP and improving management efficiency. It plans to combine each company’s expertise in planning and producing webtoons and web novels, while also enhancing its capabilities in novel comics that connect web novels and webtoons to create stronger synergies in the story IP business.
The combined company will focus its capabilities on planning and discovering high-quality IP across a range of genres.
The three companies are content providers for webtoons and web novels, and the company said they have strengths in IP planning and production, as well as in expanding IP into secondary works such as dramas and animation.
Kakao Entertainment Corp. stated, "Through this merger of the three companies, we will plan and discover competitive IP across diverse genres, strengthen the foundation of our story business, and build a stronger IP pipeline with global competitiveness."
