[Financial News] Hancom Lifecare, a defense and safety equipment company under Hancom Group, reported strong second-quarter growth and has entered a full-fledged phase of profitability improvement. With deliveries of next-generation gas masks set for the second half of the year and a new fire-fighting robot business also coming online, the company expects to keep its earnings momentum going.
Hancom Lifecare said on the 14th in its semiannual report that it posted consolidated second-quarter 2026 sales of 55.1 billion won and operating profit of 7.6 billion won. That marked a 103% increase in sales and a 168% surge in operating profit from a year earlier. For the first half, cumulative sales rose 81% year on year to 61 billion won, while operating profit reached 3.8 billion won, underscoring the company's solid growth trend.
In the defense segment, successful first- and second-round deliveries of the Ground Laser Target Designator (GLTD) drove second-quarter sales growth. In addition, continued efforts to improve process efficiency and optimize the cost structure paid off, lifting the second-quarter operating margin to 13.8% and sharply improving profitability. The fire safety segment also contributed to results, as the company's core self-contained breathing apparatus business remained solid and newly launched welding fire blankets and solutions for electric vehicle and battery fires gained traction in the market.
The company expects the pace of growth to widen further in the second half. The next-generation K5 gas masks supplied to the military will be delivered in stages from July through October, and remaining GLTD shipments will also be reflected in earnings. Sales from the urban combat training project and the Korea Combat Training Center (KCTC) for the Army are also expected to begin in earnest next year, improving medium- to long-term earnings visibility.
Its next key growth engine, the robotics business, has also moved into full swing. Hancom Lifecare signed a five-year exclusive domestic distribution and technology cooperation agreement with France's Shark Robotics for unmanned fire-fighting robots. Shark Robotics is the world's No. 1 company by market share and proved its technology with Colossus, which was deployed at the fire scene at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris in 2019.
Hancom Lifecare plans to combine its unrivaled sales network, which holds more than 90% of the domestic self-contained breathing apparatus market, with proven robotics technology to quickly secure a leading position in South Korea's unmanned fire-fighting robot market. In particular, the company plans to equip the robot with Hancom's in-house developed agentic OS within the year, upgrading it into an intelligent robotics solution. As global defense budgets surge amid shifting geopolitical security conditions, the company is also focusing its efforts on overseas orders, especially in Asia and the Middle East.
Kim Sun-young, CEO of Hancom Lifecare, said, "If deliveries of the K5 gas mask and the unmanned fire-fighting robot business take hold in the second half, the scope of growth will widen further." She added, "Based on our stable core fire safety business, we will expand into defense and overseas markets to build a long-term growth structure."
