Showers to Hit Many Parts of the Country on the 14th and 15th; Heat Alerts Expanded to Hanam, Boryeong and Others [FN Weather]

[Financial News] Showers are expected in most parts of the country on the 14th and on the 15th, National Liberation Day of Korea. Even as rain falls, the heat will continue across the Capital Region, the Chungcheong Region and the southern region. On the 14th, heat advisories will also be expanded to areas including Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, and Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province. From the 16th, rain is forecast nationwide under the influence of a low-pressure system.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) on the 13th, showers will fall through the evening in inland areas of the Chungcheong Region, eastern North Jeolla Province, inland eastern Jeollanam-do, inland Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province, and inland Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province. Expected rainfall is 5 to 20 mm in inland Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province, and around 5 mm in other areas.
On the 14th, showers will spread to most parts of the country. Between the morning and evening, 5 to 40 mm of rain is expected in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi Province, inland Gangwon Province, the Chungcheong Region, the Jeolla Region, Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province, and Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province. On the 15th, National Liberation Day of Korea, 5 to 50 mm of showers are also expected in most parts of the country from the afternoon to evening. Jeju Island may see 5 to 40 mm of rain from the night of the 14th through the 15th, with more than 60 mm possible in mountainous areas.
Along the east coast of Gangwon Province and in the mountains, 10 to 50 mm of rain is expected through the afternoon of the 14th under the influence of the low-pressure system. In areas where showers fall, rainfall amounts may vary sharply over short distances, and gusts, thunder and lightning may accompany the rain.
From the 16th, rain driven by a low-pressure system will replace the showers. As the system moves northeast from near Shanghai, China, rain will begin in the Chungcheong Region and the southern region in the early hours of the 16th and spread to most parts of the country by morning. The rain is expected to continue through the 17th before gradually easing at night.
The heat will also persist. As of the 13th, heat advisories are in effect for southern Ansan, Osan, Pyeongtaek, Anseong and Yongin in Gyeonggi Province, as well as parts of South Chungcheong Province, Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, North Jeolla Province, Busan, Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province and South Gyeongsang Province.
At 11 a.m. on the 14th, KMA will also issue heat advisories for Hanam, Gyeonggi Province; Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, excluding its islands; Heuksando and Hongdo in Jeollanam-do; Wando, excluding Yeoseodo; northern Sancheong County and southern Hapcheon County in South Gyeongsang Province; and Ongjin, Incheon. The heat index is expected to rise to around 33 degrees Celsius in the Capital Region, the Chungcheong Region and the southern region. The daytime high on the 14th will range from 27 to 35 degrees Celsius, and from 27 to 32 degrees Celsius on the 15th.
Strong swells will also move in along the coast. High waves may wash over breakwaters and rocky shores along the east coast through the 14th, and along the coasts of Jeollanam-do, South Gyeongsang Province and Jeju Island through the 15th. From the night of the 13th to the early hours of the 14th, sea levels may rise along the west coast, south coast and the coast of Jeju Island, raising the possibility of storm surge advisories.
