[Financial News]  Residents of an apartment complex came together to raise donations after learning that a facilities management employee who had protected the building's safety for seven years was forced to resign because of a serious illness, drawing warm reactions.

According to Newsis and others on the 11th, a notice posted in April by the council of occupant representatives at an apartment complex in Ichon-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul, was recently shared on an online real estate community. The notice was titled, 'Fundraising for Our Apartment Family, Facilities Worker A.'
The notice said that facilities worker A, who had handled maintenance work at the apartment for about seven years, had recently been forced to leave his job after developing a myeloproliferative tumor.
The council explained the purpose of the fundraiser, saying, "He has always worked diligently behind the scenes, faithfully carrying out his responsibilities and doing his best for maintenance and safety." It added, "He is now facing the double burden of a serious illness and enormous medical and caregiving expenses. In gratitude for his years of hard work, we want to gather the warm support of residents so that he can stand back up in good health."
It also added, "The full amount raised will be transparently tallied, delivered directly to the worker, and the results will be announced."
The fundraising campaign ran from April 20 to April 30 through donation boxes installed at the front desks of each building.
Residents from 460 households, along with the council of occupant representatives, the senior citizens' association, and coworkers who worked at the apartment, all took part. In total, 16 million won was raised.

The council delivered the donated money directly to A and reportedly supported its use for surgery.
A successfully underwent a bone marrow transplant and was discharged in mid-last month. He is now recovering at home, according to reports.
Sharing the news in a notice, the council said, "The warm love and comfort sent by residents not only gave great hope to a worker going through a difficult time, but also became a meaningful example for our apartment community." It added, "We deeply thank all the residents who showed their support."
