Inje County Marks 100th Anniversary of "The Silence of Love" Exhibition Through Next Month 20

【Financial News Inje=Reporter Kim Ki-seop】A special exhibition in Inje will revisit the life and spirit of Manhae Han Yong-un, marking 100 years since his signature poetry collection, "The Silence of Love," was first published.
According to Inje County on the 13th, the "The Silence of Love 100th Anniversary Special Exhibition" will be held from the 14th through next month 20 at the Manhae Literature Museum in Manhae Village. Under the theme of "Places, people, books and writings that shaped the Manhae spirit," the exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of the 1926 publication of "The Silence of Love" and examines Manhae's life, ideas, literature and independence movement through a wide range of materials.
The exhibition presents Manhae's life in nine themes. It covers his retreat into the mountains as a young man and his training at Seoraksan and Mount Kumgang, his Buddhist reform efforts and writing career, the March First Movement and his prison struggle, the birth of "The Silence of Love," his activities with The New Korea Society and the secret organization Mandang, and his years at Simujang House of 'Manhae' Han Yong-un. Visitors can also see the first edition of "The Silence of Love," along with Han Yong-un's handwritten calligraphy and manuscripts, photographs, newspapers and magazines from the time, and materials related to Buddhism and the independence movement.
The opening ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. on the 14th at Manhae Village. At 2:30 p.m. beforehand, Seonyeong Orchestra will present its original pansori performance, "The Roar of Silence," as a pre-ceremony event, adding to the significance of the centennial.
Inje has a deep connection to Manhae. Baekdamsa Temple and Oseam Hermitage in Seoraksan, where Han Yong-un entered the mountains for training, are located there. The county has also carried out commemorative projects to carry on his ideas and spirit, including the development of Manhae Village and support for the Manhae Festival.
Lee Ho-seong, head of Inje County's Culture and Education Division, said, "This exhibition brings together valuable materials that contain Manhae's life, including first editions and handwritten calligraphy." He added, "I hope this special exhibition will be an opportunity to reflect on Manhae's ideas and literary value and pass on his spirit to future generations."
