"I'm not a stalker" vs. "There were too many contacts" ... Prosecutors seek a 10 million won fine for woman accused of stalking Hwang Jung-min

[Financial News] Prosecutors asked the court to fine a woman in her 40s, who was indicted for allegedly contacting actor Hwang Jung-min over a long period, 10 million won.
At the closing hearing held on the 11th at the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court, the Prosecutors' Office sought a 10 million won fine for A, who is charged with violating the Act on the Punishment, etc. of Stalking Crime.
Explaining the request, prosecutors said, "The offense continued for a long period, and the number of unilateral contacts made by the defendant was excessively high." They added, "During the trial, she also posted threatening messages about the victim and his family on social networking service (SNS), and we took into account the fact that the victim had asked for severe punishment."
A's side denied the charges, saying it had not been proven that Hwang Jung-min clearly and consistently refused contact.
The defense argued that Hwang Jung-min had once asked her to stop contacting him, but later called her first or responded positively to her messages.
In her final statement, A said, "I won't say that I did everything right over the past two years," but added, "Having a moment when my emotions collapsed and I did something I should not have done is a completely different matter from being a stalker who chased one person unilaterally for two years."
She continued, "Please look at the record as it is, and see who contacted whom first, what was said, and what promises were made." She added, "What frightens me most is having this fixed as something one person did unilaterally when there was no relationship between us at all."
During questioning of the defendant, the court also examined how A sent messages implying suicide, as well as a will file, to Hwang Jung-min.
Prosecutors also confirmed why she sent a photo of a cat carcass and a tissue stained with blood, and how she contacted Hwang Jung-min's minor son.
A admitted sending the messages and files. However, she said she did not intend to make Hwang Jung-min feel anxious or afraid, and that she sent them while trying to explain her condition and end the relationship.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for the morning of the 8th next month.
The case began with an investigation last August after a complaint filed by Hwang Jung-min's side. In February, the court issued a summary order imposing a 3 million won fine on A.
A challenged the summary order and requested a formal trial.
The case became public after A recently claimed on her SNS and elsewhere that she had a private relationship with Hwang Jung-min, and released recorded phone calls and message exchanges.
