[Financial News] The Korea Exchange pushed back against some media reports claiming that the listing review period for Samsung Electronics and SK hynix leverage products had been cut by more than half from the usual timeframe, saying the reports were "not true."
On the 8th, the Korea Exchange said in a press reference note that "single-stock leverage products are listed through preliminary listing review applications and approvals, the effectiveness of securities registration statements, and main listing applications and approvals, in accordance with relevant laws and regulations." It added that "the preliminary listing review period is slightly longer than that of domestic benchmark index ETFs, while the main listing application and trading start period of seven days is the same as the usual timeframe for ordinary ETF main listings and trading starts."
According to the exchange, a review of listing timelines over the past five years, based on calendar days, showed that the preliminary review period averaged 11 days for domestic benchmark index ETFs, 13 days for single-stock leverage products, and 19 days for other ETFs, including overseas index and mixed-asset funds.
The total time from preliminary review filing to listing averaged 43 days for domestic benchmark index ETFs, 29 days for single-stock leverage products, and 62 days for other ETFs. The minimum listing period for domestic benchmark index ETFs and other ETFs was 27 days in both cases.
Based on these figures, the exchange said the preliminary review period for single-stock leverage products is not shorter than that for domestic benchmark index ETFs.
The exchange also said the main review process for single-stock leverage products took the same amount of time as it does for ordinary ETFs.
After the main listing application is submitted, the exchange checks formal requirements such as listing rules before the product is listed and trading begins. It said this process usually takes place within one week after the main listing application. In this case, the single-stock leverage product filed its main listing application on May 19 and began trading on May 27. Taking into account the substitute holiday for Buddha's Birthday on May 25, the period from application to trading start was seven days.
