[Financial News] On the 8th, President Lee Jae Myung said he would move to improve the system to eliminate the so-called "marriage penalty," under which young people face disadvantages in loans, housing subscriptions and taxes after getting married. Through reviews by relevant ministries and other channels, the government plans to examine 22 proposed tasks one by one and come up with measures that young people can actually feel. The administration is stepping up efforts to expand support for young people.
President Lee said on X, formerly Twitter, that "our young people should never have to hesitate to get married because of government policy. To that end, I have instructed officials to thoroughly investigate and report any institutional disadvantages that may arise from marriage."
He added, "I have heard a range of opinions through youth forums, real estate forums and reviews by relevant ministries. In that process, 22 tasks that directly affect housing and asset building, such as loans, housing subscriptions and taxes, were first proposed." He emphasized, "I will carefully examine each one to see whether improvements are needed and whether the measures can be fair and provide practical help to everyone."
He also said he would gather more public opinion. President Lee stated, "I want to hear from the public and work together to create both big and small changes that people can actually feel. If there are any other systems you think are unreasonable, please feel free to let me know."
He reiterated, "The government will do its utmost to ensure that marriage becomes a hopeful new beginning, not a burden."
