Seoul Tops 40 Degrees Celsius... Nowon District Records 40.2 Degrees

[Financial News]  The temperature in Nowon District, Seoul, climbed above 40 degrees Celsius on the afternoon of the 7th. The reading came from an automatic weather station (AWS) that measures temperatures by area, so it is not recognized as an official record high.
According to data from the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), the temperature at Nowon AWS in Seoul reached 40.2 degrees Celsius at 3:28 p.m. that day. The city was hit by extreme heat, with actual observed temperatures rising above 40 degrees.
The highest temperature at the automated weather station (ASOS) in Songwol-dong, Jongno District, which measures Seoul's official temperature, stood at 38.0 degrees Celsius as of 3:32 p.m.
ASOS and AWS differ in both their purpose and whether their readings are accepted as official records. ASOS is a representative local observatory that continuously measures temperature, precipitation, wind and other conditions over long periods using the same standards. Official records such as each area's all-time high and low temperatures announced by the KMA are based on ASOS data.
