OpenAI to Offer Unlimited Free ChatGPT Chats [Global AI Briefing]

Until now, free ChatGPT users were restricted after a certain number of chats. Going forward, however, there will be no limit on text conversations. Image generation, file uploads, and attachment analysis will remain subject to usage limits, as before.
As OpenAI recently surpassed 1 billion users and removes paywalls for AI model access, some analysts say it may be aiming to establish ChatGPT as the everyday AI interface for users around the world, much like Google became the dominant gateway in the search market.
According to The Verge on the 6th local time, OpenAI will remove text chat usage limits for free users and subscribers to its cheapest paid plan, the $8-a-month Go plan (about 11,300 won).
It will also make the latest model, GPT-5.6 Luna, the default model. GPT-5.6 Luna is OpenAI's latest AI model, unveiled in July.
In addition, OpenAI will provide the Think button to free users as well. When users press the button for difficult questions, the AI reasons for longer before generating an answer, helping solve complex problems.
In the end, AI users around the world will be able to enjoy unlimited chats using the latest AI models, along with more advanced reasoning.
Industry experts said OpenAI is now accelerating a strategy to become the default interface of the AI ecosystem through unlimited free ChatGPT chats.
The idea is to remove barriers so AI users can use ChatGPT without limits and cement it as the world's universal AI interface. By maximizing free users, OpenAI aims to make ChatGPT the entry point for a wide range of AI services, including search, shopping, productivity tools, and AI agents.
The strategy is seen as similar to how Google established itself as the leading internet interface in the internet era and became a dominant force across search, shopping, and the broader online ecosystem.
