President Lee: "This Is a National Climate Disaster Situation... We Must Focus All Efforts on Responding to the Heat Wave Disaster"

[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said on the 6th, "The worst heat wave in history is sweeping across the country," and instructed officials to "focus all efforts on responding to the heat wave disaster."
At the Senior Presidential Aides Meeting he chaired at Cheong Wa Dae that day, Lee said, "We are effectively in a national climate disaster situation."
Lee noted that "for the first time, a severe heat alert was issued for the Capital Region after being issued in the southern regions the day before, and this unprecedented heat wave is posing a major threat to people's lives." He added, "With a higher sense of urgency than ever, we must raise the level, scope, and speed of policy responses to the maximum."
He also stressed, "Our top priority now is to protect the lives and safety of the people. In particular, all disasters always pose a greater threat to people in difficult circumstances." He continued, "We must concentrate all available administrative resources on the safety of residents in vulnerable facilities such as goshiwons, jjokbangchon, and vinyl greenhouses, as well as workers at construction sites and in parking lots in rural areas."
Lee also urged officials, saying, "The burden on frontline public servants is also truly heavy amid the record-breaking heat. It will be difficult, but I ask you to inspect the sites directly and swiftly carry out the necessary measures for people in even more difficult circumstances."
He said that fundamental countermeasures are also needed. Lee stated, "More fundamentally, we must join forces to improve infrastructure such as housing and water facilities, power grids, and heatwave response facilities in line with the climate disaster situation that has become the new normal. In the case of traditional markets, they reportedly suffer a double burden every year as customer traffic drops sharply in the summer due to a lack of cooling facilities." He added, "We also need to pay attention to building related facilities. Please also consider reflecting these plans in next year's budget proposal."
He particularly emphasized once again, "There must never be a situation in which a person's life or death depends on where they live or where they work."
