[Financial News] Samsung Electronics will launch the Galaxy Z8 series and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Watch 9 in the domestic market on the 7th. The Galaxy Z8 series has already drawn strong consumer attention by setting a record 1.44 million pre-orders, the highest ever for a Galaxy smartphone, and industry watchers are focused on whether it can keep up its momentum.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 also won over female consumers.
According to industry sources on the 6th, about seven out of every 10 customers who pre-ordered the Galaxy Z8 series during the sales period from July 28 to Aug. 3 chose the Fold 8. Among pre-order customers on Samsung.com, people in their 10s to 30s accounted for half, and female customers in that age group who bought the Fold 8 Ultra and Fold 8 more than doubled from the previous Fold 7 model.
The Galaxy, once dismissed as a 'dad phone,' appears to have captured the hearts of female consumers with its new models.
By color, the Fold 8 Ultra's Graphite and Violet Shadow, the Fold 8's Cream and Graphite, and the Flip 8's Pink and Cream were the most popular choices.
Subscriptions to the AI club are also rising.
Among customers who pre-ordered unlocked models on Samsung.com, half signed up for the New Galaxy AI Subscription Club.
Samsung also improved the convenience of data transfer and sharing with iOS devices through Smart Switch and Quick Share, while expanding payment, transit card and ID functions in Samsung Wallet.
The Fold 8 Ultra focuses on multitasking, including document writing, data review and content creation, with its large 203.1 mm display.
It weighs 215 grams and measures 4.1 mm thick when unfolded, making it the thinnest Galaxy Z Fold series model ever. It also comes with a 5,000 mAh battery, a 200-megapixel main camera and, for the first time in the Fold series, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
When unfolded, the Fold 8 offers a 193.2 mm main screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, and when folded, a 138.4 mm cover screen with a 10:16 ratio. At 201 grams, it is the lightest Fold series model ever, and it is equipped with a 4,800 mAh battery and a 50-megapixel dual camera.
The Flip 8 weighs 180 grams and is 6.1 mm thick when unfolded, making it the thinnest and lightest model in the Flip series. It also introduces a new 'Mirror View' feature that lets users use the screen like a hand mirror.
Pre-orders for the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Watch 9 also rose by double digits from the same period last year. The Watch Ultra 2 was most popular in Titanium Gray, while the Watch 9 drew strong demand for the 44 mm Graphite and 40 mm Cream models.
In particular, the share of female buyers for the Watch Ultra 2, which was released in a single 47 mm size, increased by about 15% from the previous model.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Watch 9 improve comfort, battery performance and display brightness, while strengthening personalized health management features.
The Watch Ultra 2 is equipped with an 800 mAh battery and a display with peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits.
The Watch 9 measures 24-hour health data and provides biometric indicators, heart health scores, daily aerobic load and body fitness index readings. It helps users track physical changes and manage healthy habits.
The new Galaxy Z8 series and the new watch lineup will be rolled out sequentially in more than 100 countries, including South Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, India and Japan.
