A baseball game went ahead despite the heat wave, and a male spectator in his 20s suffered cardiac arrest, putting KBO's safety manual under scrutiny

[Financial News] During a professional baseball game between SSG and LG at Incheon SSG Landers Field on the 4th, a male spectator in his 20s collapsed from cardiac arrest, and the game was suspended for nine minutes.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. in the stands next to the cheering section on the first-base side, just before the top of the ninth inning. After the spectator collapsed, the umpires ordered the players off the field and halted the game at 10:02 p.m.
The game resumed after the patient regained consciousness through emergency treatment at the scene and was rushed to a hospital.
Incheon was sweltering that day, with temperatures reaching around 34 degrees Celsius even at 6 p.m., and the heat continued until 10 p.m., when the accident occurred.
Earlier that morning, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced a plan to cancel only games in areas where a heat-wave 'severe alert' had been issued, and as a result, the games in Gwangju and Jamsil were canceled.
Incheon, however, was only under a heat-wave warning, one or two degrees below the severe-alert threshold, so the game went ahead as scheduled.
The decision has drawn criticism from inside and outside the baseball world, with some saying KBO applied its administrative manual mechanically and put spectator safety on the back burner.
