[Financial News] Some internet users who posted malicious comments targeting singer G-Dragon (G-DRAGON) have ultimately received summary orders for fines from the court.
According to Newsis and other reports on the 4th, his agency, Galaxy Corporation, said in a statement that it is continuing legal action against various unlawful acts online, including defamation, spreading false information, insults, malicious slander, and violations of personal rights and privacy, in order to protect G-Dragon's honor and rights. It added that the court issued summary orders imposing fines ranging from 2 million won to 7 million won on multiple defendants.
The agency had previously said in February that it filed complaints against about 100 people who wrote and spread malicious posts on charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc. (defamation).
At the time, the agency explained that it had identified numerous suspects through search and seizure operations targeting major online communities and social networking service platforms. It said the suspects had been transferred to police stations with jurisdiction over their addresses, where investigations were under way.
The agency said that many cases are currently being handled by investigative authorities and the courts. In some cases, it added, the suspects' criminal charges were recognized and the cases were sent to the Prosecutors' Office or handed over to criminal trial.
It also stressed that the outcome shows anonymous accounts can still be traced and lead to actual criminal punishment. The agency said it will hold those involved fully accountable in all ongoing cases and respond strictly under a zero-tolerance policy, without any leniency or settlement.
Meanwhile, G-Dragon will meet fans from the 21st to the 23rd at the main stadium of Goyang Stadium in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, with BigBang's new world tour, "XX : COSMOS," to mark his 20th debut anniversary.
