[Financial News] As Cha Ga-won, chairman of PIAK Group and head of entertainment agency ONE HUNDRED, has recently been arrested, a recording has surfaced that is stirring controversy. In it, Cha is said to have discussed financial disputes with singer MC Mong (Shin Dong-hyun) and gambling debts, while also suggesting that he ordered a so-called 'reverse viral' campaign to shape negative public opinion after their relationship deteriorated.
On the 4th, the YouTube channel 'Entertainment Chief Lee Jin-ho' raised related suspicions based on an audio recording titled "'Take Down MC Mong' Chairman Cha Ga-won... Shock 'reverse viral' recording obtained," which it said was secured from an acquaintance of Cha. The released recording is believed to have been made around December last year.
In the recording, a person believed to be Cha claimed, "It wasn't 12 billion won that MC Mong extorted from me. He took much more. He took around 40 billion won," adding that "MC Mong had enormous gambling debts."
The person also went on to say that, because of MC Mong's threats, he had repaid 20 billion won in debt on behalf of Baekhyun, a member of EXO.
The recording also raised suspicions that, after the two men fell out, Cha's side brought in an outside marketing firm to carry out reverse viral operations against MC Mong.
In another recording released later, a person believed to be Cha and a representative from a viral marketing firm were heard discussing specific keywords and ways to spread posts. Lee Jin-ho's side claimed that Cha tried to create negative public sentiment by spending about 100 million won after parting ways with MC Mong. During the conversation, the firm representative also warned about legal risks, and the names of other entertainers and third parties were mentioned.
However, Lee Jin-ho, who released the video, also said, "It is difficult to trust 100% what Chairman Cha said in the recording," drawing a line on the truthfulness of the remarks.
Meanwhile, with Cha's sudden arrest on the 3rd and the latest revelations surrounding the recording, the fallout for the entertainers involved, their agencies, and partner companies is expected to continue for some time. The facts behind the recording will need to be confirmed through official statements from the parties involved and investigations by law enforcement.
