The White House to Set Up Testing Framework for AI Companies to Evaluate New Models

Major AI tech companies will gather at The White House on the 4th, local time, to discuss a framework for assessing the cybersecurity capabilities of advanced AI models.
According to CNBC, a White House official confirmed the plan on the 3rd and said the meeting would discuss a voluntary cybersecurity review framework for tech companies under President Donald Trump's executive order issued in June.
Sources said the review meeting will be attended by Anthropic, OpenAI and Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc.
Earlier, in an executive order issued on June 2, Trump instructed federal officials to create a specific process. The goal was to help AI developers determine whether models they are building could be classified as so-called "covered frontier models."
Covered frontier models are the most advanced AI systems in existence. They have high-risk cyber capabilities and are therefore subject to prior government review. The executive order called for a testing framework that would allow developers to determine whether their models fall under that category.
Under the voluntary program, participating developers may allow the government to evaluate their models for up to 30 days before disclosing them to "trusted partners."
The Trump administration says early access would allow the government and tech companies to assess whether new AI models can find software vulnerabilities or be used in sophisticated cyberattacks.
The executive order directed the Ministry of Finance, the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to establish a benchmark framework for evaluating advanced cyber capabilities in AI models.
Whether a specific model is subject to review will depend on whether it meets certain benchmarks and thresholds, but those criteria have not been made public.
The order also made clear that the program cannot be used for mandatory federal licensing, permits or prior approval, emphasizing that the measure is voluntary rather than compulsory.
