Hyundai Motor Company's July sales fall 5.1%... "Weak domestic demand and strike fallout"

[Financial News] Hyundai Motor Company’s sales in July declined. The company sold 318,454 vehicles in South Korea and overseas combined, down 5.1% from the same month last year.
According to Hyundai Motor Company on the 3rd, sales by market fell 14.4% year on year to 48,113 units in South Korea, while overseas sales dropped 3.2% to 270,341 units.
In the domestic market, sedans sold the most at 16,331 units. The Hyundai Grandeur led the segment with 8,532 units, followed by the Hyundai Sonata with 4,584 and the Hyundai Elantra with 2,624. RV sales reached 16,767 units, roughly on par with sedans. The Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Palisade were the main models, with 3,822, 2,756 and 2,545 units sold, respectively.
In the small commercial vehicle segment, a total of 7,281 units were sold, led by the Hyundai Porter with 4,280 units and the Hyundai Staria with 2,904. Medium- and large-sized buses and trucks sold 2,304 units. The luxury brand Genesis also supported domestic sales, with 5,430 units sold, including the Genesis G80 with 1,933 units, the Genesis GV70 with 1,700 and the Genesis GV80 with 1,317.
Overseas sales fell 3.2% from a year earlier to 270,341 units. That accounted for most of Hyundai Motor Company’s total sales. Although the decline was smaller than in the domestic market, the downward trend continued.
A Hyundai Motor Company official said, "In July, overall industry demand weakened, while production was disrupted by the strike and demand for vehicles awaiting launch also affected sales." The official added, "In the second half of the year, we will introduce competitive new models such as the All-New Avante and stabilize production operations to strengthen sales momentum."
