According to foreign media reports on the 2nd, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Telegram on the 1st local time that Iran would "respond firmly to any aggression."
In a phone call with the Saudi foreign minister, Araghchi warned that "any aggression by the United States and Israel, or any participation by regional countries in such attacks, will face a firm and proportional response."
He also warned of U.S. "adventurist actions" in phone calls with the Turkish foreign minister and the chief of staff of the Pakistan Army, according to reports. The move appears to be part of Iran's effort to convey its hard-line stance to the United States and Israel through U.S. allies and mediators in the Middle East.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia and the United States carried out precision strikes on pro-Iranian militias in Iraq on the 28th of last month.
U.S. media reported that the United States and Israel are considering strikes on Iran's energy facilities and other targets this weekend. However, reports differed on whether President Trump has approved the operation.
There is also speculation that the attack could be put on hold if diplomatic talks make progress. Some observers say President Trump could still change his mind at the final stage.
Tensions have escalated in the Strait of Hormuz after a series of tanker attacks. According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a tanker passing about 20 kilometers northeast of Lima, Oman, was hit by an unidentified projectile on the 1st. A separate explosion also occurred about 39 kilometers northeast of Khasab, Oman.
