Tanker Hit Again at the Entrance to the Strait of Hormuz

[Financial News] A tanker passing near the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified projectile and became unable to operate.
On the 1st (local time), Reuters reported that the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said the incident occurred at sea about 20 kilometers northeast of Oman Lima. UKMTO explained that the tanker was attacked, its engine room was damaged, and it is currently unable to navigate on its own.
The incident took place at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
Since war broke out with the United States and Israel in February this year, Iran has declared control over the Strait of Hormuz, a key energy shipping route, and has attacked merchant vessels for failing to comply with its orders.
The latest attack on the vessel came amid rising tensions after reports that the United States and Israel are preparing large-scale airstrikes targeting Iran's energy infrastructure this weekend, Aug. 1-2.
In June, the United States and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), but talks stalled over disagreements on issues including control of the Strait of Hormuz. Since then, the two sides have exchanged airstrikes and retaliatory attacks, raising fears of a renewed full-scale war.
