Indonesian President Says He Would Go to Pyongyang if Lee Asked; Cheong Wa Dae Says He Could Play a Constructive Role

A Cheong Wa Dae official said the government believes countries with friendly relations with both sides, including Indonesia, can play a constructive role in achieving peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula, and that it has continued to explore related cooperation measures.
Earlier, some foreign media reported that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said at a meeting of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry that he would be willing to visit North Korea and help open the door to dialogue if President Lee Jae-myung requested it.
According to the reports, Prabowo said that during his visit to South Korea in April, Lee asked whether he could visit North Korea and begin some form of dialogue, and that he replied, "With the utmost respect and willingness, I said, 'If you ask, I will go.'"
Cheong Wa Dae also said at the time of the April 1 Korea-Indonesia summit that "President Lee explained our government's policy of peaceful coexistence and shared growth on the Korean Peninsula, as well as efforts to resume inter-Korean dialogue, and asked for Indonesia's constructive role." It added that "President Prabowo reaffirmed his support for denuclearization and peace on the Korean Peninsula."
