[Financial News] Shares of semiconductor companies on the U.S. stock market, which had recently fallen sharply amid concerns over excessive investment in artificial intelligence (AI), rebounded strongly. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are also trading higher in premarket trading before the regular session opens.
According to NextTrade, as of 8:15 a.m. on the 31st, Samsung Electronics was trading at 234,000 won in premarket trading, up 13.04% from the previous session. SK hynix was trading at 1,526,000 won, up 15.43%. SK hynix opened with a sharp 17% rebound as soon as premarket trading began.
The rally appears to have been driven by a surge in semiconductor stocks on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) overnight, boosted by earnings reports from Microsoft (MS) and Lam Research. Microsoft, which reported second-quarter results the previous day, jumped 15.5% on the 30th local time, marking its biggest one-day gain since 2008, after posting solid growth in Azure cloud services and announcing higher capital spending.
The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX), made up of 30 major semiconductor stocks listed in the U.S., soared 8.19%, marking its biggest gain in about one year and three months since April 9, 2025, when it rose 18.73%.
Other semiconductor-related stocks also rose together, including Applied Materials, up 15.0%, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), up 13.0%, Intel, up 11.3%, Marvell Technology, up 12.2%, and NVIDIA, up 2.7%. Semiconductor-related exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the U.S. also posted strong gains.
SK hynix's American Depositary Receipt (ADR) in the U.S. stock market also rebounded 17.5% on the day and closed at $168.01, about 12.8% higher than its offering price. Micron and SanDisk also surged 18.3% and 25.8%, respectively.
