Some say the weak market is dampening consumer sentiment, while others argue that a few isolated cases are being forced into a broader narrative.
A post titled "Behaviors That Have Increased Due to the Stock Market Crash" has recently been shared across various online communities. It said individual investors who suffered losses from the sharp drop in stock prices were canceling prebooked overseas trips and hotel stays, even at the cost of cancellation fees.
Responses followed, with users saying they had canceled trips after mentioning losses in their accounts. One user wrote, "I lost the equivalent of two months' salary in just a few days, so I canceled all the overseas trips I had planned for August."
Another user said, "I am canceling all my pension and hotel reservations even though I have to pay cancellation fees comparable to a car down payment."
Others chimed in with comments such as, "I canceled because I just didn't feel like traveling after losing money in stocks," and "I canceled because I don't have money to spend overseas."
However, some argued that linking a few isolated cases to the stock market decline is a stretch.

In fact, some of the vacation-cancellation stories attached to the post were unrelated to stock losses, including cases where people said they had been diagnosed with pregnancy and needed rest, or simply wanted to cut costs and switch to domestic travel.
