According to Hyundai Motor Group on the 30th, Chung made the remarks while receiving business reports from employees at the Brazil plant and the Latin America regional headquarters in Piracicaba, São Paulo state, on the 27th local time. He said, "There are many challenges and tasks ahead as Brazil's industrial environment changes and competition enters a new phase, but overcoming this crisis is essential for the next stage of growth and leap forward."
Brazil is a key hub for Hyundai Motor in Latin America, where the company's Brazil plant and Latin America regional headquarters are located.
In particular, Hyundai Motor's Brazil plant, completed in 2012, quickly established itself and now produces 200,000 Brazil strategic models a year in a stable manner. It is also regarded as a representative Korean company in Brazil and a bridge for economic cooperation between the two countries.
At the Latin America R&D center located on the Brazil plant site, Chung met with researchers and urged them to strengthen local R&D capabilities and push ahead more aggressively with powertrain localization in order to secure sustainable medium- and long-term business competitiveness. He then moved to the production plant and closely inspected the production quality of the i20 and the Hyundai Creta, a flagship sport utility vehicle (SUV) model that began production in June. He also encouraged local employees after the plant surpassed cumulative production of 2.5 million units in March this year.
Chung said, "Reaching the milestone of 2.5 million units in 13 years is the result of the dedication and teamwork of the Brazil plant employees," adding, "Brazil is a very important market in Hyundai Motor's global business, and we are deeply grateful for all that has been achieved so far."
According to FENABRAVE, Hyundai Motor sold 96,723 vehicles in the Brazilian market in the first half of this year, marking its highest first-half sales since 2019, when it sold 99,567 units. Sales also rose 12.1% from 86,316 units in the same period last year, showing strong momentum.
